[BCMA Broadcast] (Fwd) Collections Managers SIG invite

I would like to invite collections managers and registrars from BC
museums to come together to form a Special Interest Group within 
the BC Museums Association. This group will focus on collections 
management concerns and issues in both an formal and informal 
manner.

With organization, this group could become a 'sister' interest group
to the Registrars' Committee within the Western Museums 
Association in the US. The RC-Western Region currently inspires 
session topics for conferences, organizes workshops, and produces 
a topical quarterly newsletter for its members. Through informal 
regional brown bag lunches, the RC-WR also provides a sense of 
community for the museum collection specialists. During these 
lunches, professional concerns are shared, plus there is opportunity 
to meet and get to know local colleagues.

At the Annaul General Meeting of BCMA in Reno, I volunteered to
collect names of those interested in becoming a part of the 
formation of this BC collections managers group. Currently I have 
about a dozen names, and would like to extend the invitation to 
registrars, collections managers, curators, conservators, and any 
person who interested in/directlly involved with collections 
management concerns.

If you are interested in joining the BCMA Collections Managers SIG,
please send an email with the heading "Collections Managers SIG"

with your name, institution and contact information. I will send out a 
confirmation email to all interested parties by mid-December. We 
can begin as an email list, and branch out from there. If this email 
list is successful, I would like to suggest formally creating a 
collections managers SIG at the 2004 BCMA Conference in 
Nanaimo.
