Dear Colleagues,
The Langley Centennial Museum and National Exhibition Centre is pleased
to offer for circulation an exhibition featuring the works of Legh
Mulhall Kilpin (1855-1919). The exhibition is available from November of
2004 to December 2005.
Born in Great Britain in 1855, Kilpin was almost 50 years old when he
immigrated to Canada in 1906, settling in Montreal. His artistic career
in Canada spans the years 1906 to 1919. Because of his experience as an
art teacher, he was employed by the Westmount schools in that capacity,
while pursuing his career as a professional artist in Montreal. His work
was represented in the important annual exhibitions of the day, the
Spring Exhibition of the Art Association of Montreal (now the Montreal
Museum of Fine Arts) and the annual exhibition of the Royal Canadian
Academy.
Since 1989, the Langley Centennial Museum has received an important
collection of works by this artist, a gift of the artist’s
grand-daughter (as many family descendants settled in British Columbia).
The collection has been researched by art historians at the University
of Victoria. The exhibition is accompanied by a well-researched and
fully illustrated exhibition catalogue.
The following URL provides a slide presentation on the exhibition, as
well as the technical information.

to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
