I attended the November 26 presentation at the Arts Club Revue Stage in Vancouver and strongly recommend that your museum or gallery to be represented at the Info Session nearest you.

Those institutions not currently eligible for operating assistance from the Province will likely find a number of funding opportunities coming available to them through the ArtsNow program.

At this point, no other Info Sessions are scheduled, however BCMA has made this request of ArtsNow.

Guidelines are expected to be made available "mid-December". You can bookmark the ArtsNow webpage:
http://2010legaciesnow.com/arts.htm

Information Session Description

The session will outline the ArtsNow program in detail, including
information on criteria, requirements and materials needed to apply
for funding.  Learn about  about the 2010 LegaciesNow funding for the
arts: how to apply, deadlines, tips and more.

The 2010 LegaciesNow is a not-for-profit organization created and
funded by the Province of BC during the 2010 Olympic Bid to invest in
an array of community based initiatives which strengthen the sport
and recreation infrastructure in the province. The program was so
successful, its original purpose has been expanded to include:
Sport and Recreation, the Arts, Literacy and Volunteerism.

ArtsNow is a newly created dedicated arm of 2010 LegaciesNow. Its
mandate is to invest in creative and cultural activities that will strengthen the arts and cultural sector, help the sector prepare for the Cultural Olympiad, and create lasting cultural legacies in
communities throughout the province. Approximately $12 million will
be invested through ArtsNow programs.

At the end of this information session you will be able to:
- Decide whether or not you or your organization qualifies to apply for
ArtsNow funding;
- Gather relevant materials for your application;
- Understand the guidelines and application procedures for ArtsNow.

Presented by Lori Baxter, Director, ArtsNow

Watch BCMA-L for further updates and links, and related LegaciesNow announcements to follow.

Is your museum or gallery participating in your local "Spirit of BC Community Committee"?

The theme for Conference 2005, October 19-22, 2005 in Kelowna, BC is "Creating a Cultural Restaurant". Proposals are not limited to these suggestions. However if you recognize yours, we invite you to complete and submit a proposal. We also invite members and museums and galleries from the Okanagan and Kootenays to contribute sessions particularly characteristic of the region. Questions? Over the coming three years we will be working to strengthen and enhance the creative capacity of individuals, organizations and communities throughout British Columbia. We are pleased to announce our first three pilot contribution programs. They were developed in consultation with the arts and culture sector to address three specific areas: capacity building for organizations, culture planning and community engagement. Guidelines and application forms are available on-line at www.2010legaciesnow.com - click on "ArtsNow". If you have trouble accessing them through the website, please contact 604-659-1400 or e-mail: artsnow@2010legaciesnow.com and hardcopies will be forwarded to you. The three pilot programs are: Creative Communities The Creative Communities Program offers matching funding for communities to undertake cultural development initiatives in association with community leaders. This program assists with structured fact-finding and consensus-building scans and assessments to identify a community's cultural assets, needs and opportunities. It also supports the creation of cultural development plans to detail the strategies and resources required to ensure that arts and culture are effective contributors to the economic and social health of a community or region. Catalyst The Catalyst Program provides funding for BC cultural organizations to undertake initiatives that will enhance their sustained ability to realize their artistic goals and achieve excellence by building their artistic and organizational capacity, and/or the capacity of their audiences. Innovations The Innovations Program offers assistance to organizations or communities that want to create new opportunities for people in BC to engage in cultural activities. Like all ArtsNow programs, it focuses on activities that can have a lasting impact or are a catalyst for change within BC communities and the cultural sector. For additional information, guidelines and application forms, visit www.2010legaciesnow.com . Additional programs will be announced and available on the website as they are developed.
