Request for Qualifications (RFQ):	 
Project Coordinator 

B.C. Museums Association has issued this Request for Qualifications  
(RFQ) by interested and qualified museum professionals for the  
contracted position of Project Coordinator. 

Description: 
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator will  
assume responsibility for completion of BCMA’s “Best Practices  
Module Development Project” (in progress). The BPMDP is a BCMA  
initiative to provide capacity-building support for BC museums with a  
series of contemporary, readily accessible, online “best practices”  
reference and training modules addressing the essential elements of  
museum governance, operations and collections management.  
Completion of this Project will form the basis for the overall updating of  
“Standards for BC Museums” guidelines. 

Term:  This contract will run (approximately 8-9 months), from July  
2004 to no later than March 31, 2005, the required project completion  
date. (Actual start and end dates negotiable). 

Contract Fee:	Total contract is $20,000 with an initial three-month  
probationary period, progress review, (terms to be negotiated), and  
prospective contract renewal for the balance of the Project. 

Responsibilities: 
Coordinatemuseums standards and practices research,  compilation 
    and production of an initial series of 10 “Best  Practices” reference 
    modules to be made available online to the  museums community 
    as part of the new BCMA website’s Learning  Resource Database;
 
Identifyand subcontract qualified museum professionals to  compile 
    and produce modules in one or more of the designated  areas of 
    museum practices;
 
Ensurecompletion of required research tasks (in progress);
 
Liaisewith subcontractors to direct specific content and format  
    continuity;
 
Ensurecompletion dates are met and subcontractor agreements  are 
    fulfilled;
 
Liaisewith vetting panel of museum consultants to ensure  accuracy, 
    relevance and completeness (reference value) of  module content;
 
Constructand conduct a pilot test of module content with a cross- 
    section of prospective users in a focus group process and  
    incorporate any and all findings to ensure value of module content;
 
Coordinateuploading of completed Best Practices modules to  
    BCMA’s online Learning Resource Database with the BCMA  
    webmaster and domain host;
 
Promotethe availability and accessibility of completed modules to  the 
    museums community;
 
Overthe course of the Project, identify and prioritize subject matter  for 
    “next steps” in BCMA’s continued development of online  
    reference and instructional material;
 
Developand undertake an evaluation of the reference modules  and 
    complete interim and final Project reports, as required.
 

Qualifications: 
Respondents are required to submit a specific, maximum 2-page  
“Statement of Qualifications” directly related to the above Project  
objectives, including: 
Provenformal museum training and practical experience with the  
    methods, practices and procedures involved in museum  
    operations;
 
Extentof your current working knowledge of, and relationship(s)  within 
    the BC museums community;
 
Relatedresearch or other project coordination experience,  including 
    use of subcontractors and/or research assistant(s) to  gather, 
    analyze, edit and assemble project information;
 
Relatedexperience in the research and preparation of best  practices, 
    standards and/or instructional manuals or documents,  (samples 
    welcome), including proven written and reporting skills;
 
Relatedexperience, if applicable, with the development and  
    applications of online resources or services.

BC Museums Association wishes to thank interested parties in  
advance, however due to time constraints, only those applicants  
chosen for an interview will be contacted. The decision of the selection  
committee will be final. No results will be given to individual applicants  
by phone or email. No appeals will be heard or selection rationale  
given. 

Please watch for a subsequent “Call for Expressions of Interest” for  
subcontracted positions to compile and produce module content for  
this Project.
