Hi Kris, Jim and membership,
Thank you Kris for your reply and suggestion of forwarding our thoughts.
Campbell River was the first of community forums, and I think the arts &
culture were well represented. I took the opportunity of giving an oral
presentation, as did the Art Gallery. Apparently, clips of my presentation
were heard by various people on CBC radio the next morning, including from
Nanaimo. Interestingly, they told us that all oral presentations & all
written submissions will be posted on their website. Some key points that I
wanted to raise were:
-- re-instate and strengthen options for multi-year funding as this is
essential to the sustainability of organizations. (short term, project
grants should only enhance strong multi year operating assistance)
-- should be based on merit of broad programs to communities, for all
families & age groups (removal of the clause 'for youth' & by youth...)
--an increased % of gaming revenue should be used towards grants to
community groups
-- consistent, improved communication and clear guidelines
Let us hope the review process will bring us all results that we are so in
need of,
Lesia

Review
Hi Jim & Council,
Thank you for the notice and encouragement for participation in the
Community Gaming Review and your work on our behalf. Community Gaming
Grants is a crucial issue to many of us, and I am sure the BCMA member
concerns are broad and diverse. Fittingly, as updated in the most recent
issue of Roundup, Advocacy is a key strategic tactic of Council.
I would really appreciate if BCMA could share the BCMA input given on
behalf of member needs & concerns and a timely copy of its formal submission
as it is prepared. I think it would help us all as we formulate our
submissions and attend review meetings.
I am responding through the list serve as this may be of help and interest
to many of us?
With thanks,
