Dear Colleagues;

I am the resident curator of Emily Carr House, a national and provincial
historic site dedicated to the art, writings and life of this unique Canadian.
As someone whose career for over thirty five years has been in the co-
joined field of heritage, conservation of historic sites and antiquities,
culture, museology and art, I want to draw to the attention of other BCMA
members Friday´s announcement (attached) by George Abbott, who is a
candidate in the BC Liberal Party Leadership race.

Please take the time to read it carefully. It is significant on many levels.

Currently I am actively involved in the Heritage Tourism Alliance of BC
whose many partners include the BCMA and therefore all its members,
Parks Canada, Heritage BC, Economuse, New Pathways to Gold, Aboriginal
Tourism Association of BC, The Land Conservancy of BC, the BC Heritage
Properties, the Downtown Business Associations of BC, post secondary
institutions throughout BC, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural
Development and the Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Investment.

We are partnering together to increase the visitation and thus the revenues
and economic stability of our member organizations. Undoubtedly all of our
organizations- historic sites, archives, museums, art galleries and cultural
centres are of great value to our communities on more than just an
economic level.

Friday´s announcement outlines a heritage policy which supports this
perspective and would, once initiated, focus resources and respect for our
collective heritage in all its diversity. Again, please take time to read it
through. It is a major step forward for BC's heritage community.

Thank you

Jan Ross
