The Quesnel Museum is seeking two highly motivated students to assist in the daily operations of the museum and to undertake special projects as outlined below.

Applicants must be:
*          A Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada.
*          Willing to commit to a full time work assignment for 16 weeks
*          18-30 years of age and registered in and returning to full time education
*          Registered with Young Canada Works (www.youngcanadaworks.com<http://www.youngcanadaworks.com/>).


Duration of work:        May 14 to September 1st,  2012
Hours/week:                37.5 Hours per week
Number of weeks:       16 weeks
Wage:                          $12.32 per hour (Plus $1.10 per hour in lieu of benefits)

Collections Assistant:
Assist with an inventory and collections assessment
-                          to verify collections records and improve the content (including the integration of digital images)
-                           to identify items which should be de-accessioned due to condition, multiples in the collection and lack of provenance or relevance to the museum's collections mandate
Assist with the redevelopment of a minimum of two exhibits
Undertake an individual project selected from the following:   research for an upcoming exhibit on Women in the Cariboo, interview forestry workers for an ongoing oral history project, continue the digitization of the local newspaper, develop content for a museum tour delivered through QR codes, design of an audio-tour app.

Education and Events Co-ordinator:
Assist in the delivery of the education programs offered by the museum
Plan and implement outreach activities during a minimum of 4 community events
Assist with the organization and marketing of special events including the Heritage Speakers Series, a guided walk and Open Doors Quesnel
Undertake an individual project selected from those listed above (under the collections assistant) or revise or develop a new education program; select and write commentary for 12 photos to be featured on the museum web site.


The ideal candidate:

o   Is enrolled in a post-secondary arts or science program
o   Preferably has experience working with children or in a Museum setting.
o   Is knowledgeable and interested in regional and BC History
o   Enjoy working with the public
o   Has a high level of computer literacy
o   Possesses excellent organizational, research and interpersonal skills
o   Pays attention to detail and applies guidelines consistently
o   Is self-motivated and able to work independently
o   Is proficient in the English language, both written and spoken


This is a union position.  Interviews and job related tests may be required. Duration of work is subject to grant funding.
