Hello Members;
We have received a supportive response from members and stakeholders
for the format and content of the BC Museums Association's 1-Day
Workshop & Annual General Meeting 2012 Luncheon this Friday, June 29th.
Unfortunately, due to this being the only available date at the host location,
we have received almost as many "regrets" from people unable to attend,
purely due to the pending Canada Day long weekend.
Consequently, and out of respect for our instructors' prep time, we have not
received a sufficient number of participants to proceed with either of the two
concurrent workshops, nor our guest speaker this Friday, so the morning
part of the program has been cancelled.
These two proven workshops will be offered in their full format at
Conference 2012, October 17- 20, 2012 in Kamloops, BC.
HOWEVER: Council will proceed with the AGM Luncheon (with a new menu
& reduced luncheon price of $20.00), including the sneak preview
presentations of the Conference 2012 program and Kamloops Host
Committee's special event plans.
BCMA is obligated to hold an AGM by September 30th, given our March 31st
fiscal year-end. However Council wanted to proceed with its planned face-
to-face and the AGM on June 29th, out of respect for those Council
members completing terms; to get new Council members onboard right
away to undertake the important committee work and re-examination of how
we operate and our member services; and to provide more valuable support
to the Host Committee for the successful delivery of Conference 2012 this
fall. Postponing the 1-Day 2012 AGM & Workshop program to later this
summer was not deemed feasible, and a September date would not allow
Council enough time before Conference 2012 to accomplish these goals.
Therefore, Council invites you to attend the AGM Luncheon this Friday to
help ensure a quorum, but also to contribute your much-valued input on the
Association's latest developments, opportunities and challenges.
AGM Check-in will begin at 12:00 Noon at MOV's Joyce Walley Room
(same venue as last December´s Awards Luncheon). The afternoon's
program is expected to be completed by 2:00pm.
WHAT TO DO:
1.Please confirm your AGM attendance in advance by email to:
BCMA at museumsassn.bc.ca & indicate whether you would like the
lunch * ($20.00 ea)?
2.Deadline for confirming your AGM attendance & Lunch is: 1:00pm,
Thursday, June 28th (for catering purposes);
*Pleasenote that it is not necessary to purchase lunch to attend the AGM,
but advance confirmation is still requested for the preparation of meeting
materials.
3.Feelfree to bring additional members! New participants need to pre-
register by downloading the existing AGM Workshop Registration Form
from the BCMA homepage at: www.museumsassn.bc.ca and FAX-ing
the completed form to BCMA at: 250-387-1251 or by email to:
BCMA at museumsassn.bc.ca
4.AGMMeeting documents are posted on the BCMA homepage for
downloading, including the proposed Agenda, Notice of Institutional
Member´s Voting Rep, Assignment of Proxy Vote & Call for Nominations
(to Council). Reports are now being posted. Watch for notification to
follow to members shortly.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change. BCMA
remains committed to developing this new spring event around the Annual
General Meeting as an added professional development and member
networking opportunity, so your support at this time is very much
appreciated.
We sincerely hope to still see you at the Museum of Vancouver, 1100
Chestnut Street, Vancouver, BC this Friday, June 29th.
Again, AGM Check-in will begin at 12:00 Noon at the Joyce Walley Room.
Thank you.
--- 30 ---
