As part of opening celebrations for the new Steveston Tram Building, we are looking for four professional historical interpreters to represent the diverse cultures of the people of Richmond and their connection to the interurban tram from 1913 to 1958.  The interpreters will fulfill the roles of:


  *   Tram conductor/motorman - circa 1930s-1950s
  *   Cannery worker (male or female) - circa 1913-1940s
  *   Farmer (male or female) - circa 1940s-1950s
  *   Female passenger - circa 1913-1930s

The costumed interpreters would be required to engage visitors during the opening event, regaling people with short anecdotes about the history of the tram and their characters' lives in Richmond. The interpreters will develop a character based on research provided.

Preferred skills and experience:

  *   Demonstrated experience as a first person historical interpreter
  *   Outgoing and personable
  *   Skilled in improvisation
  *   Able to work alone and as a part of a team
  *   Professional and punctual
  *   Previous knowledge of the interurban tram or Richmond's history an asset

Costumes, makeup and hair styling will be supplied for the event.

Hours:

  *   Preparation:   2 hours of character preparation before the event

  *   Meeting: One hour meeting in person with coordinator before the event
  *   Performance at Opening Celebration - Friday, May 3
     *   5:00pm - 6:45pm: Hair and makeup and final preparation
     *   7:00pm-9:30pm: Performance during opening
     *   9:30pm-10:00pm: Changing out of costume and makeup

Remuneration: $180.00

Closing Date: Tuesday April 16, 2013 at 12:00 midnight
