The Golden Museum accepted the gift of the 1904 CPR Station 20 years ago.
They had it moved to and placed on a foundation on the Museum grounds.
Since that time much money has been spent on stabilization, protection and
feasibility. We are working on the latest feasibility plan which would a)
See us try to raise a half million dollars to just open its doors - much
more to make it a functional all season space or b) Putting it out to our
community that we have done our due diligence, took our time making the
decision but do not believe that we have the capacity necessary to see
rehabilitation and use through to opening and ask for input from the
community including proposal for use, sale or demolition.
The architect that we are currently working with has sugggested that a
decision needs to be mad quickly as the building is continuing to
deteriorate and will within the next couple of years become a true
liability to us.
We wondered if any other organizations have found themselves facing a
similar delema? If so how did you work it out? Does anyone have any
suggestions or ideas that we may have missed?
