Step Back in Time - Victorian Workshops for Culture Days
Roedde House Museum opens its doors for a trio of Victorian-themed events.

Vancouver, BC (September 24, 2014) - Roedde House Museum is very excited to
be included amongst more than 7,500 free activities that are already
registered to take place in over 825 communities across Canada as part of
the 5th anniversary of Culture Days, taking place on September 26-28, 2014.
Roedde House Museum is participating in Culture Days by inviting local
artists to share their craft with the community. In the spirit of theme of
the Museum, three Victorian-themed events will be happening over the course
of Culture Days weekend. These include:

*	Camera Obscura Workshop (Friday September 26th, 2014, 1 - 4pm)
		Professional photographers Silmara Albi and Mauricio Orozco
will be facilitating a workshop on Camera Obscura techniques. Participants
will learn about the early history of photography, view some vintage
cameras, and build their own camera obscuras.

*	Marbling Demonstration (Saturday September 27th, 2014, 1 - 4pm)
		Book artist Phyllis Greenwood will be leading a paper
marbling demonstration in the house of Vancouver's first bookbinder &
marbler extraordinaire, Gustav Roedde. Learn about late 19th century book
arts and printing.

*	Singing in the Parlour (Sunday September 28th, 2014, 1 - 4pm)
		Second Sunday Concert Series Artistic Director (and
classically trained soprano) Catherine Laub will be leading a singing
workshop focusing on music culture and works from the late 19th century.

Docents will also be leading free tours of the House, enlightening visitors
about the typical lives of a Vancouver family living in the Victorian era.
Roedde House Museum, in Vancouver's West End, is a late-Victorian home in
the Queen Anne revival style. Built in 1893 for the family of Gustav Roedde,
the city's first bookbinder, it has been faithfully restored to reflect the
day-to-day life of a middle class, immigrant family at the turn of the last
century.
