Hello everyone,
We're pleased to announce that the call for speakers for our annual
conference is now open. Scroll down for details.
BC Museums Association Conference 2017
Victoria, Oct 3 - 6, 2017
*CLIMATE FOR CHANGE*
*PROPOSALS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR SPEAKERS/PRESENTATIONS*
The BC Museums Association invites proposals from individuals interested in
speaking at Conference 2017 on the theme of *Climate for Change. Sessions
will explore issues such as relationships with Indigenous communities,
social justice, and climate change within museum, art gallery and cultural
centre practices.
BCMA encourages proposals that explore best practices and/or innovations,
making connections with colleagues, and workshops for museum professionals
in areas such as exhibit design or development, budgeting, fundraising,
volunteer management, marketing, and storage.
Share viewpoints, case studies and discussions on issues, including:
· How can museums, art galleries, historic sites and cultural centres
have a positive social impact on the communities that they serve, changing
lives, improving communities and acting as catalysts for change?
· How are “best practices” evolving to better meet the needs of a
rapidly changing world? Examples of innovative practices across the
Province are welcome.
· How are museums, art galleries, historic sites, and cultural centres
transforming their spaces to meet the needs of their diverse audiences and
how are they working with their communities and external experts to achieve
this?
Proposed sessions in the following formats should focus on practice rather
than theory, on topics of interest to the museum, gallery, archive,
library, history and heritage sectors:
· Presentation
– to include Q&A. Panel presentations are acceptable
but must not include more than 3 panelists
Workshop
– to include dedicated time for hands-on participation.
· Ask the Expert Plenary Session
- 20 minute one-on-one appointments, or 30-minute roundtable
discussions regarding a specific area of expertise
The deadline for submissions is April 28, 2017. *Notification of accepted
proposals will be issued in early June 2017.
