<div>It has come to our attention that some museums in BC are in possession of firearms without a valid Business Firearms Licence (BFL). Some museums may have previously held a BFL but have expired and not renewed.</div>

<div>The museums may ignore the information below if:</div>
<div>- They do not possess or do not have any intent to possess any firearms in their inventory or catalogue.</div>
<div>- Only have verified antique firearms OR all firearms have been de-activated and have proof from the Firearms Registry in Ottawa.</div>
<div>- Already have a valid BFL.</div>
<div>- Are classified as a Public Agency according to the Public Agency Act and Regulations. </div>

<div>If a museum has firearms in their possession but no longer wants them in their inventory because of the required BFL, they must contact their local police detachment to have the firearms destroyed. You may also contact the Canadian Firearms Program at <a href="tel:1-800-731-4000" value="+18007314000" target="_blank">1-800-731-4000</a> for other options to lawfully dispose of the firearms. </div>

<div>If a museum does possess firearms in their inventory/catalogue, whether or not on display, must have a valid BFL to possess those firearms, regardless if those firearms are Non-restricted, Restricted, or Prohibited. <div>If the "firearms" are <strong>verified</strong> as antiques, then they are not classified as firearms and the museum will not need a BFL. The museum must have those firearms verified as antiques. <div>If the firearms are certified as de-activated (proof from the firearms registry in Ottawa), then they are no longer firearms. Simply removing the firing pin or plugging a barrel <strong>DOES NOT</strong> make a firearm de-activated. </div>

<div>About the application process:</div>
<div>- The museum will have to have at least one person with a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) to handle the firearms in the business/museum. If you have restricted and/or prohibited firearms then the persons PAL must include restricted privileges. </div>

<div>- Museum will need to provide the following documents with the application: Proof of incorporation, Non-profit Society, or other constating document; Municipality or regional district licence or letter from them stating you do not need a licence to operate as a museum in your area; and current list of employees that handle firearms. </div>
<div>- An on-site inspection by a local Firearms Officer to determine the minimum criteria are met for safe storage, display, and handling. <div>After the BFL application has been approved, the licence will be issued and will be valid for 3 years. The BFL will also give museums access to the Business Web Services where they can access the Firearms Reference Table (FRT). The FRT stores all known information (some historical) about known types of firearms in Canada. </div>

<div>There is no current Business Firearms Licence application online. A museum will have the following options to obtain an application or ask any questions in regards to this:</div>
