Visit an exhibit that explores the balance between order and chaos in
the month of May at the Crafthouse Gallery. "Random Pattern" is a body
of textile work based on West Coast imagery and explores the nature of
random pattern. Random pattern is both the subject of these works, and
the method by which they are produced.

Jean Kuwabara describes the exhibit in the following manner: "The work
for this exhibit is created out of my desire to grasp the concept of
random pattern, as exemplified by the sea. There are many examples in
our world of random pattern, the veins in a leaf, raindrops splashing in
a puddle, even the spacing of stars in the heavens. However, as someone
who has grown up at the edge of the ocean, I am interested in the
patterns of water. By observing the patterns in ocean waves, these
pieces [in the exhibit] explore the delicate balance or order and
randomness. My human brain wants to find order underlying every
phenomena and resists the idea of utter randomness. . . Order and chaos,
a dynamic tension that is present in everything around us. This work is
my intuitive response."
