Temporary Full-Time Position: Theatrical Interpreter 2007

The North Vancouver Museum and Archives Commission will present costumed
interpretive tours at the new Burrard Dry Dock Pier and historic Pacific
Great Eastern Railway Station, located at the foot of Lonsdale Avenue in
North Vancouver, during the summer of 2007. This year will build upon
two years of similar programming year's initiative and will complement
similar initiatives that have operated from the City of North
Vancouver's historic P.G.E. Railway Station for the past six years. =20

The Theatrical History Interpreter will be responsible for researching,
writing, presenting and promoting the history of the area of the old
shipyard (Burrard Dry Dock), the current operations and history of
Vancouver's port, as well as the PGE Railway, in an engaging and
entertaining manner. Primary activities include costumed interpretation
of the history of the sites (Waterfront Productions and Let's Talk
History ) plus a children's program, All Hands on Deck!

Specific Duties:
* to present and promote walking tours from the historic PGE
Railway Station and newly restored Burrard Dry Dock Pier;
* to research, develop and present theatrical storytelling
related to the history of the shipyard, Vancouver's harbour, the early
railway and the North Vancouver community;
* to assist with the theatrical portion of the children's
program, All Hands on Deck!;=20
* to research and organize the production of necessary
historical costumes or "props";
* to compile a reference binder of the summer's activities for
use by future theatrical interpreters;
* to assist with maintaining the historic P.G.E. Station; and
* to compile a resource binder of press releases related to this
program.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
* experience presenting and performing before live audiences;
* experience writing and organizing presentations;
* demonstrated interest in history;
* demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service;
* outgoing personality and high energy; and
* strong organizational abilities.=20

Work Sites: 209 West 4th Street (Presentation House), 107 Carrie Cates
Court (P.G.E. Railway Station), The Pier (at the foot of Lonsdale
Avenue), and the Community History Centre, 3203 Institute Road, all in
North Vancouver.=20
Term of Employment: May 16th to September 2nd, 2007
Work Week: 35 hours (Wednesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.),
including weekends and statutory holidays. =20
Wages: $18.59 per hour (2006 rates). A limited range of benefits will
be offered after qualifying periods have been completed. =20

This position is dependent upon receipt of funding via the Young Canada
Works in Heritage Institutions program of the Department of Canadian
Heritage, administered by the Canadian Museums Association. Candidates
