EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Position Available: Regional/Area Manager, Vancouver Island/Coast Region
Location: Based in Victoria, BC
Start Date: February 26, 2007 or as soon as possible
Overview of Position:* *
This position is one of a two-person team that plans and manages the
effective functioning and coordination of all of/ TLC/’s activities on
Vancouver Island, the Central Coast, and the Gulf Islands. This position
will oversee the management of sites open to the public or sites with a
built heritage component including Keating Farm, Craigflower Manor and
Schoolhouse, Ross Bay Villa, Abkhazi Garden, Sooke Potholes and
Wildwood. The Area Manager will also aid in fundraising events,
volunteer development, and supporting activities and administrative
responsibilities as required.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
o Oversees the management of and manages site staff at all
properties open to the public or with a heritage component
including Keating Farm, Ross Bay Villa, Craigflower Manor
and Schoolhouse, Abkhazi Garden, Sooke Potholes and Wildwood.
o Meets with agents, government officials, partners and others
to assist in negotiations, plans and strategies to acquire
or otherwise protect, conserve or cooperatively manage
properties
o Reviews draft management plans prepared by staff and/or
prepares management plans or for properties under TLC’s
management responsibility
o Oversees the management of TLC’s collection of artifacts
associated with sites in this region
o Participates in the development and implementation of
policies and protocols governing the management, operation,
interpretation and care of TLC’s cultural heritage
properties and collections.
o Works with the other Regional/Area Manager to develop and
implement regional programs to build/ TLC/’s profile,
outreach and partnership development.
Qualifications:
o 5-10 years combination of education and experience in the
heritage field (including heritage site operations,
interpretation, building restoration, and/or collections
management)
o Experience supervising staff
o Budget management experience
o Grant writing and management experience would be an asset
o Experience working in a not-for-profit environment
o Nature conservation knowledge/experience/interest would be
an asset
o Professional, highly motivated, system-oriented, excellent
communication and organisation skills
