The Art Gallery of the South Okanagan presents BC Art Rocks
The Art Gallery of the South Okanagan in partnership with the Spirit of BC=
=20
Week presents BC Art Rocks in celebration of British Columbia=92s rich=20
artistic heritage.
During the week of Sunday, February 11, through Sunday, February 18, the=20
Art Gallery will offer free admission to the gallery, featuring exhibitions=
=20
of artwork of Irwin Crosthwait, Ken Flett, Amy Rubin, and a selection of=20
works by Sonia Cornwall, which were recently donated to the gallery.
Yael Wand and the Joey Only Outlaw Band will be performing an all-ages free=
=20
concert in the main gallery of the Art Gallery of the South Okanagan (199=20
Marina Way, Penticton) starting at 7 pm on Friday, February 16th.
True to her divergent roots and wanderings, Yael Wand delivers songs with=20
the sensibility of folk and allusions to jazz, all set in the landscape of=
=20
a wild country. Born in Israel and raised in Vancouver, Yael now makes her=
=20
home with foxes, bears and wildflowers in the mountains of northern British=
=20
Columbia. Her shift from big city to small town plays out in her music.=20
Yael sings urban lullabies along side tales from the rustic cabins of the=20
backwoods. She navigates the political terrain of the Middle East with the=
=20
same ease and passion as she does the wilderness of the Canadian west. Her=
=20
classical vocal training and 17 years of live performance makes her a=20
powerful performer. She draws in an audience with the sound of her voice =96=
=20
clear and passionate =96 and captivates with the colour and substance of her=
=20
songwriting.
Joey Only has the voice of Johnny Cash and the attitude of the Clash,=20
prompting some to call him Johnny Clash. Joey performs using a guitar,=20
harmonica, whistling, and foot-stomping, and takes his influence from a=20
long history of activist musicians such as Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie, Neil=
=20
Young, and Johnny Cash among others. Joey has performed with many of the=20
artists from Riot Folk including Evan Greer, and Anne Feeney, as well as=20
various other well-known folk and anti-folk acts from around Canada and the=
=20
USA. He has a deep, country voice and has traveled the country, never=20
backing down; standing up for his beliefs even if it means being arrested.=
=20
His music has an old soul, being drawn from his life=92s experience, and as=
=20
those who have come before, he can never be accused of backing down and not=
=20
having said his piece.
Yael Wand and the Joey Only Outlaw Band will be performing a free all-ages=

the diversity and richness of British Columbia=92s cultural community.
