Also, James Gardner and Elizabeth Merritt wrote and published the "AAM
Guide to Collections Planning," available through the American
Association of Museums. I know in the book they discuss developing a
collection plan and the planning process itself - it might be useful to
you. Elizabeth taught a course with us a few years back on Collections
Planning. They also wrote an article published in the AAM "Museum News"
journal in 2002 entitled "Collections Planning: Pinning Down a Strategy"
that is useful in distinguishing between a collecting plan, collections
planning and collections management policy. It also offered some key
points to consider in developing a plan.
