DOUKHOBOR MUSEUM CAMPAIGNS TO SAVE PRICELESS ARTEFACTS

The Doukhobor Discovery Centre is presently embarked on saving its =
collection of some 100 implements. Many of these implements are 100 =
years old, and mostly due to wood rot, must be restored as soon as =
possible while the original patterns exit. Many of these were primary in =
the settlement of the west, both in Saskatchewan and in British =
Columbia. Some were rescued from the flood areas.

After restoration, the second important part of this project is to =
prepare an adequate space for the most vulnerable implements as they are =
restored.

This is a durable and well built structure suitable for housing and =
viewing of various relatively fragile implements.

The primary requirement is to cement the floor to prepare a firm =
foundation. Secondly a slightly heightened runway must be cemented along =
three sides at an elevation of about one foot. This area will provide a =
pedestal for the implements suitable for viewing, and lastly for =
interpretative labelling.=20

Once this 'pedestal' is complete, newly restored implements will be set =
up and labelled in this protected space. The total cost of this project =
will be about $50,000. As we are a community resource, serving our =
district and area, we hope to make this particular project a community =
one, with input from many of the major players in the area.
