CDRN Parametric Modeling and Digital Wood Fabrication Workshop and
Symposium
DATES: February 15-24, 2007
LOCATION: Forest Sciences Centre at the University of British
Columbia in Vancouver, Canada
New tools, techniques, products and practices are revolutionizing the
use of wood in architecture, design and construction. To help design
professionals take advantage of the opportunities presented by these
innovations, the Canadian Design Research Network (CDRN), in
collaboration with the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture
and the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing at the University of British
Columbia and the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at Simon
Fraser University, is presenting a series of events that will explore
the potential of digital media and CNC fabrication technologies.
The focus of these events is on the integration of parametric modeling
and digital fabrication techniques into design, manufacturing, and
construction processes. Parametric modeling is an emerging technology
that allows designers to interactively investigate multiple design
alternatives. In combination with rapid prototyping equipment, it
provides a new and innovative approach to design.
The CDRN Parametric Modeling and Digital Wood Fabrication Workshop and
Symposium will be held at the Forest Sciences Centre at the University
of British Columbia on February 15 to 24, 2007. Parallel to a 10-day
workshop, symposium events with panel discussions, lectures, exhibits,
industry workshops and presentations will take place on February 21 to
24, 2007.
The CDRN Parametric Modeling and Digital Wood Fabrication Workshop and
Symposium is listed as a Registered Provider of the AIBC Continuing
Education System. AIBC members will receive Continuing Education credits
for the participation in individual workshops, lectures and panel
discussions.
All lectures, panel discussions and exhibitions at the CDRN Parametric
Modeling and Digital Wood Fabrication Workshop and Symposium will be
open to the public and fee of charge.
