I am a Masters student studing through Northumbria University and am writing my dissertation on Tiering Collections. Through past experience I have seen over-crowded storage areas and shelves of potential in artifacts waiting to be researched or displayed.  As we begin to focus the scope of our collections, I am interested in the policies we have in place with regards to tiering/grading and organizing our collections. I aim to identify how our collections are currently being used, as well as how we identify the artifacts for their determined use. I hope this survey will provide a sampling of Canadian institutions from various regions, allowing me to compile the data and identify the trends and needs of our collections.
