*Nature of Position
*Learning is an important aspect of the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre
mandate. Every day visitors of all ages are engaged in a sense of
wonder about the universe, our planet and space exploration. The H.R.
MacMillan Space Centre is seeking a dynamic individual to present
educational programs to school and public groups both at the facility
and as outreach programs.
*Major Duties and Responsibilities
*Working with staff in Learning Services, the presenter is expected to
act with initiative, work independently and as part of a team to carry
out the services for the public and school presentations. Responsibility
includes delivering routine programs, answering questions from the
public, setting up program equipment, maintaining non-complex records
associated with delivery venues, using technology, equipment and props
to deliver programs, liaising with all front line staff and incidental
cleaning duties. Work performance is evaluated in terms of the quality
of program delivery.
*Qualifications
*v Excellent professional, organizational and communication skills
with a passion for working with people
v Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills and proven ability
to communicate with children and adults in a fun and engaging manner
v Excellent team work ethic with the flexibility and initiative
required to jump in and assist where needed
v Energetic and enthusiastic self starter, with a willingness to learn
and to multitask
v Background in astronomy, space science and sustainability education
an asset
v Experience working and managing groups of children in an education
focused museum/science centre environment
v Comfortable with technology and operating equipment
v Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
with a variety of internal and external contacts
v Grade 12 and completion of one year of post-secondary education in
astronomy, sciences, environmental education or a related subject plus
some related experience working with children, or an equivalent
combination of training and experience
v Valid BC Drivers License an asset
