HISTORIC ROEDDE HOUSE CELEBRATES BRAND NEW COAT OF OLD COLOURS
At the Roedde House Museum in the West End’s Barclay Heritage Square,
“everything new is old again”, to flip a familiar saying. The House is
now sporting
a crisp, new exterior coat of “Victorian Peridot”, accented with
“Pendrell Green” and “Pendrell Red”, colours which are very close to the
original painting away back in 1893, revealed through research and a lot
of scraping. The new paint work was undertaken by the City of Vancouver
through the Vancouver Heritage Foundation and the True Colours
Programme, featuring custom paints from the Benjamin Moore Collection.
To celebrate its new, old look, the Roedde House Museum will hold a B.C.
Day Open House with Free Admission, from Noon to 4 pm on Monday, August
6, 2007.
Everyone is invited to tour this beautifully restored and authentically
furnished Victorian family home. The whole family will enjoy a
glimpse into life at the turn of the last century, when Barclay Street
was a dirt road and the West End was still a partial wilderness, when
children had simple games and pastimes and no computers or TV, and mom
worked very hard in a kitchen with a wood-burning stove and no appliances!
Tea and cake will be served and volunteers will be on hand to tell
visitors all about the Roedde family, the Victorian architecture, and
the story of the House’s restoration.
Other than this special Open House, the Roedde House Museum’s Summer
Hours are
Tuesday to Friday, 10am – 5 pm, Saturday, 10am – 3 pm, and Sunday, Tea
and Tour, 2pm – 4pm. Roedde House is located in Barclay Heritage
Square (bounded by Barclay, Nicola, Haro and Broughton), a unique park
site that includes nine historic houses, dating from 1890 to 1908,
retained in their original settings. Call 604-684-7040 or go to
