at Crafts Association of BC
Graphic Designer/Exhibition Assistant (August to October 31, 2007);

The Crafts Association of BC is looking for a creative and motivated 
student to assist in designing communications & marketing collateral 
including print and online web page revisions for exhibitions and 
special projects. An opportunity to use your graphics and art skills in 
creating designs that promote and capture the essence of fine craft.

Position would suit a student who is pursuing a career in a 
gallery/museum or cultural organization, graphic design, advertising, 
marketing/communications.

Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director and with 
some support from the Communications Coordinator, the Graphic 
Designer/Exhibition Assistant will assist with the implementation of 
summer and fall exhibition and education programs including:

    * Designing and creating web content and on-line catalogue for Craft
      Year 2007 project and contribute to updating revised website.
    * Standardizing printed and electronic marketing collateral using
      new logo designed.
    * Preparing and executing plans for province-wide exhibition and
      related programming scheduled for September 2007 at the Roundhouse
      Community Arts & Recreation Centre including liasing with
      exhibiting artists, packing and shipping works, coordinating
      artists demonstrations and public events.
    * Assisting with gala opening and fundraising events related to
      Craft Year 2007 project.
    * Design and create marketing templates using new logo placement for
      print and electronic materials.
    * Create signage/graphics for trade show use.
    * Writing and producing accompanying text materials in print and
      online on the website for exhibits and programs.
    * Communicating with the media to promote exhibits and programs.
    * Writing for the quarterly newsletter and various communications
      collateral (media releases, posters, E-news bulletin).
    * Researching and designing graphics materials for Korean
      International Craft Biennale in Oct. 2007 and Oct. 2009.
    * Attending Committee meetings as needed.
    * Working with volunteers.
    * Other related tasks including administrative support for projects
      as needed.

Skills and Experience Required: This is an ideal position for a student 
interested in furthering his/her graphics and web design experience and 
production of exhibitions/events.

*Student in 3^rd or 4^th year in applied design program, DTP publishing, 
communications, marketing or a combination of experience and education. 
Or a recent graduate from a recognized post secondary institution.

*Some experience in graphic design, DTP and designing and building web 
sites is a must.

*Good knowledge of applications such as PageMaker, Adobe Flash, 
PhotoShop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver on a PC platform.

*An interest and appreciation for arts and culture.

*Must be able to work independently with direction from senior staff.

*Fluent in English (speaking and writing).

*Meet YCW eligibility – Canadian citizen or permanent resident; legally 
entitled to work in Canada; between the ages of 16 and 30; registered 
full-time post-secondary student intending to return to full time 
studies within the next 12 months or a recent graduate; not have another 
full-time job (over 30 hours/week).

*Asset - working knowledge of HTML, XML, and JAVA.

*Asset - experience working or volunteering with visual arts organizations.

Average of 28 hours/week (Mon-Thur from 9:30am to 5:00pm); some evenings 
and weekends will apply; some flexibility of working from home. 
Hours/days may be negotiable with more hours in August and September and 
P/T in Oct. to accommodate studies. Wage rate is $10.00/hour.

Position funded thanks to Young Canada Works through the Canadian 
Museums Association.
