Greetings!
Welcome to the first edition of our online newsletter. Each month, the Jewish Museum
and Archives of BC will provide our members with news of our upcoming events, programs
and exhibits, along with news about new Museum Store products and special promotions.
We are launching a number of new programs this year, including the Walking Tours
of Jewish Strathcona and Gastown! We hope that during the summer, you and your summer
guests will be able to join us.

HISTORIC WALKING TOUR OF JEWISH STRATHCONA AND GASTOWN
Starting June 10
This newprogram offers a glimpse into life in the heart of the early Jewish community
in Vancouver. During the 2 hour walking tour, Greg Robinson of the Jewish Museum
and Archives of BC will provide insight into the landmarks, architecture, events
and evolution of Gastown and Strathcona districts, while sharing anecdotes of Jewish
life in the area.
Dates and Location
June 10 & 24, July 15 & 29, Aug. 12 & 26 at 10:00 am & 1:30 pm
July 11 & 25, Aug. 8 & 22 at 1:30 pm only
Tours meet at NW corner of Abbott St. and Water St. at the fountain.
Tickets
$10 per person and includes a copy of the booklet, In the Footsteps of Jewish Vancouver
- 1886 to 2006. Group rate of $75 for parties of 8 to 10 people. Tour reservations
and tickets can be arranged by calling 604.257.5199.

The L'Chaim Adult Day Centre in the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver
The Jewish Genealogical Institute of BC and The Jewish Museum and Archives of BC
are pleased to present Schelly Talalay Dardashti, one of North America's foremost
speakers on Jewish genealogy. Known as an engaging and extremely knowledgeable speaker,
Dardashti will discuss how experienced genealogists might assist and encourage new
people interested in genealogy, including youth. She will talk about how to help
new genealogists access resources and create new and meaningful family connections
through research of their own past.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO LAUNCH IN OCTOBER 2007
Volunteer Docents needed
The Jewish Museum and Archives' school programs enrich the learning opportunities
for British Columbia students from Grade 3 to Grade 11. New curriculum coordinated
education programs have been developed for the 2007/2008 school year. Programs are
offered from the middle of October to the end of May and take place in the museum
galleries and classroom.
