Exhibitions and Outreach Manager
Museums and Collection Services
Museums and Collections Services (MACS) at the University of Alberta, is
seeking a dynamic professional to provide leadership to the access,
exhibitions and outreach programs and activities related to the
University of Alberta Museums.
Museums and Collections Services is an academic support unit at the
University of Alberta which leads the development and implementation of
a campus-wide operational, administrative (policy) and program delivery
framework for the University of Alberta Museums. The University of
Alberta Museums is a community of 35 museums and collections with a
collection totaling more than 20 million objects, specimens and works of
art used for teaching, research and community service. This
multidisciplinary resource is managed in concert with University
faculty, staff and students in a distributed research environment.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Museums and Collections Services,
the Exhibitions and Outreach Manager will develop, implement and
evaluate a comprehensive access and outreach strategy that identifies
the media and methods by which the University of Alberta Museums and
their associated knowledge will be made accessible to the University’s
many communities. These include exhibitions, public programs, K-12
curriculum-linked initiatives, and on-line exhibitions and resources.
Working in a team-based environment, the Exhibitions and Outreach
Manager must be a creative, independent thinker, with the ability to
lead multiple projects concurrently, including budgets, timelines and
human resource needs.
The successful candidate will have a post-secondary degree in museum
studies, museum education, exhibition design, with a preference for a
graduate degree, and five years progressively responsible experience in
a museum/university museum setting. The candidate will also have a
demonstrated knowledge of interpretation and evaluation processes in
relation to museum exhibitions, museum education and outreach;
demonstrated knowledge of materials, processes and new technologies and
their application to exhibitions and outreach program development;
financial, project and human resource management skills; exceptional
communication, facilitation and presentation skills; knowledge of the
heritage and museum community, and not-for-profit sector and government
services, locally, nationally and internationally.
Core competencies include: achievement orientation, analytical thinking,
business insight, conceptual thinking, flexibility, impact and
influence, organizational awareness, planning and initiative,
self-confidence, self-development, sense of urgency, team leadership and
team cooperation.
This is a full-time continuing Administrative Professional Officer
position with a salary range of $49,786 to $78,822 per annum and a
