STAGING HISTORY =96 A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO HONE YOUR INTERPRETATION =
SKILLS AT
BARKERVILLE -- ONE OF THE BEST LIVING HISTORY SITES IN CANADA - APRIL 28 =
TO
30, 2007=20

=20

The Setting

Barkerville has been the home of excellence in Living History =
Interpretation
since the 1960s when the ghost of Judge Matthew Baillie Begbie began to
haunt the Richfield Courthouse. Today over 20 costumed interpreters =
roam
Barkerville=92s streets under a number of assumed names, all of them =
either
historically documented or historically inspired. Visitors are =
entertained
and educated with demonstrations of period skills and trades, personal
one-to-one encounters with historic characters, dramatic street =
vignettes,
live historic theatre, all amidst the authentic gold rush setting or =
over
130 original buildings still standing where they were originally built.
This is the most fabulous setting imaginable to study. See, feel, =
breath
and become history!

=20

The Workshop

=93Staging History=94 is 2=BD days of intensive work with experienced =
instructors.
>From the theoretical perspective you will discuss the history and ethics =
on
interpreting real history and real people, when to script and when not =
to
script, how to conduct research, developing =91conventions=92 specific =
to your
site and the future of interpretation. In addition you will see a =
number of
demonstrations by Barkerville Interpreters. You will also work on =
developing
your own character or presentation and have a chance for one-to-one
interaction with the instructors.

=20
