[Bcma-l] Summer Student Grant

We applied for three and received three. A complete shock as i 
anticipated either none or only one position. We did meet the criteria 
bang-on, so for once government funding priorities may have been 
relevant. We do have a disability mandate (artists with mental health) 
plus we are doing work this year on immigration issues around the 100th 
anniversary of the anti-Asian riots in Vancouver  
http://anniversaries07.ca. The fact that we are located in the poorest 
area of Vancouver helps too.  I know the other artist-run centres in BC 
are not having success, and are widely angered by the loss of summer 
students. I've managed summer students for the past 19 years in a row, 
so the past 3 years' struggles with the program have been frustrating.
