Regarding Museum Summer Jobs

(there has been a lively discussion on the Alberta Museums Association
listserve which I share with you now)

CMA is extremely concerned over all the news on CSJ funding from HRDC
and we will investigate it. The refusals sound unacceptable to me at

Regarding Summer Jobs

CMA is extremely concerned over all this news on CSJ funding from HRDC
and we will investigate it. The refusals sound unacceptable to me at
this point.

In the meanwhile, YCW funding confirmations have been sent out and have
been received for the FIRST round of successful applicants totalling
some $1.5million.

NOW this is very important, we are hoping and expect to receive
additional funding for YCW, namely the $5 Million announced in the
federal budget but this cannot be confirmed until early June....sorry
but it is beyond CMA's control.

IF this additional funding is approved, we intend to approve additional
applications already submitted to CMA but not yet annoucned, as well as
extending the number of weeks for those applicants already approved.
Our objective will be to get this money out to museums as soon and as
quickly as we can.

We will also hold an additional grant run which we will turn around as
quickly as humanly possible, but we want to still utilize a peer jury
process in this undertaking. If possible some of these late applicants
will be permitted to continue their youth employment into the autumn.

Bottom line, you can submit additional applications to CMA now (the
sooner the better) but we have no firm guarantees that we will have
these additional funds. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Such is
life in Ottawa these days!!!
