Internment Redress and the Japanese Canadian Experience

January 20 – July 1, 2007

On loan from the Japanese Canadian National Museum, this exhibition
presents the experiences of Japanese Canadians from the human rights
violations of WWII to government acknowledgement of wrongdoing and
compensation in 1988.

Main Gallery Exhibit

The Japanese Canadian Experience in Delta

February 3 – July 1, 2007

Between February and April of 1942, Delta’s Japanese Canadian citizens,
more than 8% of Delta’s population, were removed from their homes to
camps in BC’s interior and to prairie beet farms. They were innocent of
wrongdoing, but nonetheless lost their homes, property and livelihoods.
This exhibit attempts to recover the names and stories of these people
who have largely disappeared from our history.
