The Parksville Historical Society applied for three students to work at =
the Craig Heritage Park Museum & Archives this summer & was denied =
funding this year. We have received funding in previous years.=20
Now we are looking at somehow raising the funds ourselves to pay for one =
student and cutting down the days we are open from seven to five. Of =
course this means that our other programs will suffer through lack of =
funds.
Like most museum/archives we rely on our volunteers during the year to =
provide services for our visitors and help with many other jobs. The =
points system applied by Services Canada which has meant lack of funding =
for student help is really a slap in the face for our many volunteers =
who have worked so hard and loyally over the years to maintain and keep =
our museum & archives open.
It is a very disappointing situation. Shame on the Federal Government =
for their lack of support for our cultural institutions and recognition =
of the value of the work done by volunteers.
We would like to join with all other museums to protest these cutbacks =
with one loud voice.=20
