That is a terrible predicament to be in Laurel. Not only are you battling
something beyond your control with the elements but also adverse
bureaucratic challenges as well.
We wish you the best in this latest challenge, our thoughts are with you
hoping for a quick resolution. Your work and the centre are a valuable
asset to our province that we need to work to save. Any suggestions from
anyone else in BCMA about this?

> Greetings All
> Just to let other museum folks know the predicament here in Hazelton BC
> 'Ksan Village & Museum is in the throws of evacuating the 'Ksan site. All
> exhibits have been dismantled and packed into semi-trailers.
> Our museum is located at the junction of the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers,
> two major BC rivers. The water is rising rapidly now and we have been
> informed by the Provincial Emergency Preparedness team that this year we
> are to prepare ourselves for a major flood
> This has/is an enormous undertaking for our small staff.
> I know this could spell financial ruin for our museum.
> There are no funds to assist us in this evacuation, we have to wait to see
> if any damage occurs and then forward a claim to AON Insurance if this
> happens.
> Our museum generates all its own operating revenue, there are no core
> funds, we trust our summer revenue will carry us through each year, albeit
> barely.
> Last year, we lost $60,000 in revenue due to the BC Ferry disaster...this
> year, who knows what the outcome will be.
