Position: Museum Curator
For: Mission Museum

Curator
The Mission District Historical Society is seeking a part-time Museum
Curator.
The Mission District Historical Society operates the Mission Museum, the
Mission Community Archives and Heritage Places. The Museum has a
collection of over
15,000 objects ranging from domestic, agricultural, industrial and
textile collections. The Museum provides public and educational
programming and is open to the public on a part time basis year round.
The Curator is responsible for the day to day management and
administration of the Mission Museum, including finances, human
resources, marketing, publicity and advocacy, programming, exhibitions,
collections management, interpretation and facilities management. The
Curator will liaison with the board and participate in a number of
Society Committee’s including Museum Advisory, Joint Branch Staff and
Promotions Committee, as well as attend Board Meetings.
The successful candidate will have …
* A recognized university degree and preferably schooling in
museology on a diploma or degree level.
* Knowledge and experience working in collections management and
curatorship.
* Team skills, organizational abilities and a creative approach to
exhibition development and programming.
* Demonstrated abilities to multi-task, meet deadlines, supervise a
budget and achieve project deliverables.
* Familiarity with standard office computer software and collections
databases (Access)
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills
* A minimum of two to three years experience working in a Museum
It would be an asset if the candidate had
* Experience and success in grant writing
* Knowledge of web sites and the ability to work with new technology
* Familiarity with the community of Mission.
* Prior management experience, in any setting.
The successful candidate will be willing to work occasional weekends and
evening for special events and keep the museum open one Saturday a month.
SALARY: $20 per hour @ 25 hours per week
This a permanent part-time position. The current schedule is Thursdays
and Fridays from 9am to 5pm plus one flexible day.
