Montréal Entrepreneur and Former Yukon Premier Join Board of Heritage Canada Foundation 

Ottawa, Ontario, November 13, 2007 - The Heritage Canada Foundation is pleased to announce three important additions to its board of governors: Philip O’Brien of Montréal, Piers McDonald of Whitehorse and David Bradley of St. John’s. 

Philip O’Brien, C.M. devotes his time to helping structure strategic real estate projects in the Montréal area particularly in collaboration with Telemedia Development Inc. Through his proactive involvement in various public initiatives—whether they are in heritage conservation 

(he is president and CEO of Viger DMC International, a company involved in the redevelopment of the historic Viger Railway Station and hotel), youth and community projects, public infrastructure development, or the activities of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce—he has learned to balance his responsibilities as a real estate entrepreneur with his commitment to community improvement.  

Mr. O’Brien also founded and managed Devencore for more than 30 years, one of Canada’s largest corporate real estate service organizations. 

Premier of the Yukon from 1996 to 2000, Piers McDonald began his political career over 18 years ago as a member of the Yukon Legislature where he held numerous portfolios.

Today, Mr. McDonald is a partner and consultant with Touch the North Inc.; principal advisor to Kwanlin Development Corporation; project manager for Kwanlin Dun First Nations Whitehorse Water Development Project; president of Northern Vision Development Corporation; and a member of the Canadian Polar Commission, the principal policy advisory body to the federal cabinet on northern affairs. He was also appointed president of the Whitehorse 2007 Canada Winter Games. 

David Bradley is an archivist at Memorial University’s Maritime History Archive and a former president of the Newfoundland Historical Society. He is the founding and current chair of the Association of Heritage Industries and sits on the board of the Newfoundland Quarterly Foundation. Mr. Bradley was also closely involved with the creation and implementation of the Bonavista Historical Townscape Management Plan

The board also elected Catherine C. Cole of Alberta as chair, Odile Roy of Quebec as 1st vice-chair, Pamela Madoff of B.C. as 2nd vice-chair and Rollo Myers of Ontario as member-at-large.

The Heritage Canada Foundation is a national, membership-based, non profit organization with a mandate to promote the preservation of Canada’s historic buildings and places.

Un promoteur montréalais et un ancien premier ministre du Yukon se joignent au conseil d’administration de la fondation Héritage Canada

Ottawa (Ontario), le 13 novembre 2007 – La fondation Héritage Canada est fière d’annoncer trois importants ajouts à son conseil d’administration : Philip O’Brien de Montréal, Piers McDonald de Whitehorse et David Bradley de St. John’s. 

Philip O’Brien, C.M. s’emploie à aider à structurer des projets immobiliers stratégiques dans la région de Montréal, notamment en coopération avec Développement Télémédia inc. Il tient un rôle actif dans diverses initiatives publiques, qu’il s’agisse de conservation du patrimoine (il est président-directeur général de Viger DMC International, une société qui participe au réaménagement de l’historique gare-hôtel Viger), de projets pour les jeunes et pour la communauté, de développement de l’infrastructure publique ou des activités de la Chambre de commerce du Canada. Il a ainsi appris à concilier ses responsabilités en tant que promoteur immobilier et son engagement envers l’amélioration de la communauté.

Il a aussi fondé Devencore, une des plus grandes organisations de services immobiliers pour entreprises au Canada, et il a géré cette société pendant plus de 30 ans.

Piers McDonald, qui a été premier ministre du Yukon de 1996 à 2000, a débuté sa carrière politique il y a plus de 18 ans en tant que député à la législature du Yukon. Il a été responsable de nombreux portefeuilles.

Aujourd’hui, M. McDonald est associé et conseiller chez Touch the North Inc.; conseiller principal chez la Kwanlin Development Corporation; gestionnaire de projet dans la mise en valeur des ressources en eau de la Première nation de Kwanlin Dun à Whitehorse; président du groupe Northern Vision Development et membre de la Commission canadienne des affaires polaires, qui est le principal organe consultatif du Cabinet fédéral sur les affaires du Nord. Il a aussi été nommé président des Jeux d’hiver du Canada 2007 à Whitehorse.

David Bradley est archiviste aux Archives de l’histoire maritime de l’Université Memorial et ancien président de la Newfoundland Historical Society. Il est le président fondateur et actuel de l’Association of Heritage Industries et il siège au conseil d’administration de la Newfoundland Quarterly Foundation. Il a aussi participé étroitement à l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre du plan de gestion du paysage urbain historique de Bonavista.

Le conseil d’administration a par ailleurs élu Catherine C. Cole, de l’Alberta, comme sa nouvelle présidente; Odile Roy, du Québec, première vice-présidente; Pamela Madoff, de Colombie-Britannique, deuxième vice-présidente; et Rollo Myers, de l’Ontario, membre à titre personnel.

La fondation Héritage Canada est une association nationale sans but lucratif s’employant à promouvoir la préservation des immeubles et lieux historiques du Canada.
