"Book Ends: An Exhibit of Works by Sharon Reay"

Sharon Reay, Jabberwocky, Clay.

Exhibition Dates: November 1 - December 2
Opening Reception: Thursday, November 1, 6 - 8pm

Sharon Reay's art features a balance of functionality and whimsical
beauty, and her upcoming exhibit showcases this signature style in a
series of ceramic book ends. Showing November 1 to December 2 at
Crafthouse Gallery (1386 Cartwright Street, Granville Island, Vancouver)
"Book Ends" consists of die-cast clay replicas of classic children's
books with their hand-sculpted characters emerging vividly from the
ceramic pages. The creation of many of these pieces has been a
complicated process, involving the manipulation of the finished books to
allow for the illustration of both the front and back covers, and to add
fine detail to the "inside pages".

Reay had three purposes in mind when she decided on this show's theme:
to pay tribute to the writers and illustrators that enriched her
childhood; to thank her father for instilling in her an enduring
appreciation for books; and "to bring some of [her] favourite literary
characters to life, to inspire a whole new generation of readers to seek
them out."

The Crafts Association of British Columbia provides leadership in the
craft community by building and promoting the development, appreciation
and sustainability of Canadian fine craft through programs and services
for the public and craft makers.
