Heritage enthusiasts to play tourist in Fort Langley
The annual Heritage BC Conference, from June 5-7, 2008 in Langley, BC, will
give conference participants the opportunity to experience the local
community from the perspective of a heritage tourist.
The conference entitled "Rethinking Heritage Tourism: New Opportunities and
Partnerships for BC" highlights heritage tourism as a vehicle for
diversifying a local economy, a catalyst for social change and a chance to
rediscover and appreciate cultural heritage through contact with visitors.
Panels and keynote speakers will explore tourism planning at the community
level, partnership opportunities between the heritage sector and the tourism
industry, and the unique arena of aboriginal tourism.
A group of student researchers under the umbrella of TRIP (Tourism Research
Innovation Project) will gather and document conference participants'
feedback on their heritage tourism experience and provide the community with
valuable tools for future heritage tourism development.
