The Drawings and Paintings of Daphne Odjig: A Retrospective Exhibition
<http://www.kag.bc.ca/exhibitions/current.htm> comprises 58 works,
including examples of Odjig's history paintings, murals, legend
paintings, erotica, abstractions and landscapes. As a group, these works
articulate the breadth of Odjig's engagement with her personal and
cultural history. They also trace the remarkable aesthetic development
of the artist from her initial experimentation to the mature mastery of
her media.

*Christine Beaton*
*Whim Whams*
*July 19 to September 7, 2008*
*Gallery Under Glass*
Christine Beaton is a ceramic artist and graphic designer, and has
worked in computer aided drafting and architectural modeling. Her works
are an exploration of the materiality of clay and of the inner workings
of objects. The forms reflect her interest in science and nature and
exhibit great patience and an eye for detail.

*Curator's Choice*
*July 26 to September 7, 2008*
*The Cube***
This summer marks the fourth annual exhibition in The Cube of work by
students graduating from Thompson Rivers University. Selected by
Kamloops Art Gallery Assistant Curator Craig Willms, Curator's Choice
highlights some of the talent from TRU's Bachelor of Fine Arts 2008
graduating class. Students at TRU graduate with a wide variety of
specialties, including ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, painting,
photography, and installation. Like previous Curator's Choice
exhibitions, this one is not so much a "best of" show, but one that is
united by thematic and aesthetic threads running through the work of
these emerging artists.
*Calendar of Events*

life story and art practice, having guided many popular tours of the
exhibition /Daphne Odjig: Four Decades of Prints/ in 2005. A natural
teacher, Tremblay brings great detail and humour to his exhibition tours.
*Collaborative Art Workshops for Native Youth*
*Saturday, August 9 & Sunday, August 10*
*at the Bonaparte Pow-Wow, Hat Creek Ranch*
*All workshops are free*
The Kamloops Art Gallery (KAG) invites Native youth in the
Thompson-Nicola Regional District to participate in a series of free art
workshops with two professional artists, Jayce Salloum and Meeka Morgan.
Participants have the opportunity to work with painting and videotaping,
but the workshops can also incorporate music, sculpture, photography,
and other art forms, depending on participants' interests. All
participants work towards the creation of a large-scale, collaborative
work of art, which will be exhibited in fall 2009 at the Kamloops Art
Gallery as part of Salloum's survey exhibition, Jayce Salloum: history
of the present [selected work 1984 to 2009].
KAG has been offering collaborative art-making workshops with Salloum
and Morgan on an irregular basis since May 2007. Now, thanks to generous
grants from Arts Partners in Creative Development and Canadian Art
Foundation, KAG can offer these workshops as often as twice per month,
until the middle of 2009.
During the workshops, participants develop their talents and learn new
skills, depending on their interests, including interview and
communication skills, storytelling and expressive skills, and technical
skills with videotaping equipment. They meet with Elders and share
stories, and meet with visiting artists. Through all of this, they
contribute their talents to a large collaborative artwork that combines
self-expression and self-representation with elements developed out of
workshop experiences.
The collaborative artwork then has the opportunity to tour with the
exhibition to other galleries nationally and internationally. All
participants will be fully credited on exhibition wall labels and
documentation. The workshops and all materials are offered free to
participants by the Kamloops Art Gallery and project sponsors.
