Ted - I'm really surprised that you didn't ask some of our members =
first. Some of us have been in the Museum field for over 30 years. Marge =
Leffler was the volunteer Museum Manager for many years & put together a =
list of requirements for the students. The dress code was given verbally =
& monitored by the Manager. The use of a uniform or vintage dress was =
discussed several times & it was decided that it wasn't practical as new =
ones would be needed every year to fit the individual students. Instead =
the students had identifying badges which they are supposed to wear all =
the time. When I & Ben Burns were Presidents we put together a job =
description for the students which was given to every student applying =
for a job. Is this still done? Your responsibility as President..
Lynn, your treasurer, is very knowledgeable & could fill you in on the =
need for a contract. Normally when a grant is given the Society signs a =
contract with the donor of the grant. Only if the society hires a person =
directly is a contract necessary.
Josta served as Manager for a couple of years after Marge & it was only =
after that in the last 3 or 4 years that a student was appointed as =
Manager (Marge Drysdale & Tom) They didn't have sufficient business =
experience & needed more guidance in business matters.
Paddy

Being new to the museum scene, I need all the help I can get!
1 Do museums generally enter into contracts with the students they =
employ ? =20
2 Are dress codes a general rule for museum staff ?
Thanks =
