The Nelson and District Museum does not pay property taxes for the buildings
it occupies, which are owned by the City. However, we are required to pay
water and sewer taxes and to pay the City for their cost to insure the
building. We have been notified that in 2009 the City is reviewing all
property tax exemptions and that we may loose our tax exempt status (no
explanation as to why). No word yet on what the damage would be if we lost
our status - into the thousands is my guess.

1. Does your organization (public art gallery/public museum) pay property
taxes on that portion of your building which is being occupied by your gift
shop?
2. Does your organization (public art gallery/public museum) pay property
taxes on that portion of your building that is leased to other profit or
non-profit entities that lease space in your building?
