LED lighting is UV-free. There are some UV-free flourescents such as
Fluorescent gold lamps which filter out UV emissions and wavelengths
below 520 nm to protect critical UV-sensitive processes. However, my
understanding is that the way these lights work is by having a UV
filtering coating, which when it has absorbed the maximum UV rays, no
longer is effective, so they must be changed at that time. This is
also the situation with UV filtering films for windows. I'm not sure
what you mean by recessed lighting. If you just mean the bulbs are
recessed into a well then you will want to aim them (if possible away
from the objects), put filters over the wells or use UV-free lights.
If you mean they are in a recessed area in the side of the ceiling
where they are shielded by ceiling structure, then that would be
ideal as the light would be indirect.
Natural lighting is also a problem because of the UV rays.
The best situation is indirect lighting. Windows and skylights can be
designed so that the light does not directly hit objects. Also in
installing lights it is best to have them installed so as to reflect
light off the ceiling or other indirect route as opposed to directly
lighting the objects.
Of course other light protecting systems such as black out curtains,
shrouds, etc. and rotating exhibits must be part of the strategy.
