CULTURAL EXHIBITS TECHNICIAN
SURREY MUSEUM

The City of Surrey is British Columbia’s second largest city and one of

demanding environment, an exciting career opportunity exists within the 
City’s Heritage Services Division.

This full time skilled preparator position is responsible for 
constructing, installing and maintaining a variety of exhibit and public 
presentation assignments in the Museum.

At the Museum, the position involves designing and fabricating support 
systems for artifacts, mounting text and graphics and assisting to 
install or adjust light and sound systems for exhibits and program 
areas. You will prepare exhibit layouts using graphics and models and 
assist with preparing exhibit spaces by cleaning, painting and 
positioning of cases.

The Cultural Exhibits Technician is also responsible for exhibition 
installation logistics, estimating project costs, preparing reports, 
maintaining records including databases and statistics, and providing 
general direction to those assisting in gallery preparation.

The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 education 
supplemented by related courses and training in museum services, visual 
arts or related technology. This may include training in carpentry, 
audiovisual systems, computer systems, welding, electronics, and museum 
collections management. In addition to this, Completion of a Bachelors 
of Fine Arts degree or a relevant Bachelors degree and previous 
experience in exhibition preparation at a public gallery or museum or 
equivalent combination of technical training and experience including 
museum conservation standards would be an asset. A valid BC driver’s 
license is also required for this position.

Ideal candidates for this position will enjoy a fast paced environment, 
working with artists and a creative staff team, managing multiple 
projects simultaneously, and using combined skills in design, power 
tools and computers. Excellent organizational skills, with effective 
written and verbal communication skills are required.
