The ideas of cycle, symmetry and repetition inform Eliza Au's ceramic
works in the exhibit, "Circumference" at the Crafthouse Gallery. The
attribute of symmetry and repetition alludes to the cycle of life:
birth, death and rebirth. Both symmetry and repetition have connotations
of the floral - the wreath as an object made of flowers, the vase to
contain them. This exhibition presents two views of the floral - the
sculptural and the utilitarian. Each respond to the idea of repeating
around an axis; the wreath in the form of a ring, the vase in the form
of a vessel. The universal need to represent time and life and our place
within this cycle is mirrored by what we create.
