The Alliance for Arts and Culture is seeking a full-time Director of =
Communications to contribute to and support the organization's =
communications objectives. A service organization for over 350 artists =
and arts organizations in the Lower Mainland, the Alliance strives =
towards an environment that recognizes, respects, and responds to the =
contribution the arts make to society's well-being.

The Director of Communications works as part of a four-person team with =
other Alliance staff to carry out the mandate of the Society. This =
position specifically deals with all aspects of Alliance communications, =
both internal and external. These include, but are not limited to: =
websites, electronic newsletters, email bulletins, annual reports, =
promotional materials, media relations, and public outreach.

RESPONSIBILITIES
=B7 Develops and maintains the marketing and communications =
strategies for the Alliance
=B7 Writes, edits, and designs all Alliance communications, =
including an electronic newsletter, email bulletins, advocacy alerts=20
=B7 Writes, edits, and designs the Alliance and other related =
websites and monitors listservs and web forums
=B7 Works with Alliance staff to write, design and maintain all =
promotional material and stationary concerning the Alliance and its =
programs
=B7 Acts as spokesperson on matters of concern to arts and =
culture community
=B7 Promotes all Alliance programs to members and the public, =
develops and attends networking functions, attends member activities and =
meets with members and non-members regarding Alliance, communications =
and advocacy issues
=B7 Researches and drafts material on cultural policy issues
=B7 Monitors media coverage and maintains regular contact with =
the media
=B7 Seeks opportunities to advocate for and promote the arts
=B7 Plans, develops and markets the Alliance's Professional =
Development Series of workshops and other events
=B7 Working as a member of the Alliance team, provides general =
office, event and technical support as required
=B7 Performs other relevant duties as may be assigned for the =
smooth operations of the Alliance.

QUALIFICATIONS
=B7 Creative and highly motivated, with excellent writing and =
editing skills
=B7 Knowledge of, and experience implementing, marketing, =
branding and communications principles
=B7 Strong HTML, graphic and desktop publishing skills =
essential, plus knowledge of web design
=B7 Previous experience with media and public relations
=B7 Basic IT troubleshooting skills
=B7 Ability to contribute and work effectively as part of a =
small team
=B7 Prior experience working in the arts an asset; a passion =
for the arts essential
=B7 Ability to work under pressure in an occasionally stressful =
environment
=B7 Available to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends =
when necessary
=B7 Strong time-management skills
=B7 Degree or training in marketing and/or communications is an =
asset.
