Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site
Heritage tours, special events, temporary exhibits, dramatised tours and
enhanced programs.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site is a varied and
fascinating environment.
The Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society is currently accepting applications for
Heritage and Education Presenters for the 2008 summer season. The Gulf of
Georgia Cannery Society operates this Parks Canada site situated in the
original 1894 cannery building in Steveston (Richmond). The site opened to
the public in 1994 and commemorates the development of the West Coast
fishing industry. We receive approximately 20,000 visitors/year.
HERITAGE INTERPRETER POSITION:
- Delivers historical programs and public tours
- Delivers school programs and hands on activities
- Assists with special events
- Interacts informally with visitors
- Works in a team of site staff
- A career-enhancing project is encouraged as part of the work schedule.
Requisites: Enjoys work with visitors of all ages from around the world.
Must be able to be on feet for most of the day.
This position requires excellent communication skills, scheduling
flexibility, experience working with the public and in a team environment.
History, tourism, museums, teaching, theatre and/or fisheries background an
asset. This position may share front desk duties of cash handling and tour
bookings.
Bilingualism (French/English) is a definite asset; fluency in other
languages an asset, esp. Mandarin or Cantonese.
SALARY: $12.00/hour
HOURS: Must be available for training sessions April 26 to 29 then full
time (35 hours/week)through Labour Day. Availability part time through to
October 6 is an asset. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays. Hire
is conditional upon security check.
