The Yale Historic Site, a Heritage Site maintained and operated by the
Yale and District Historical Society, has a position available for an
Assistant Site Manager from April 1 to Nov. 1, 2008.
Reporting to the Site Manager/curator, the successful candidate will
facilitate all aspects of the development and delivery of public program
activities at the Site including exhibit work, festival events, school
and event programming, as well as day to day operations.
This position requires excellent communication and organizational
skills, experience working with the public and the ability to work
effectively both independently and in a team environment. A passion for
history, an understanding of tourism, museums, event planning and
marketing experience is an asset. This part time position runs from
April 1 to Nov. 1 2008. During the high season (May 1 to Oct. 1) the
position is for 30 hours/week. The months of April 1- May 1 and Oct.
1-Nov. 1, 2008 is for 22.5 hours/week.
Specific Duties Include:
- Development of school and adult programs
- Targeted and general marketing initiatives of the Site
- Gift Shop management and development
- Event planning and coordination
- Day to day operations of the site including overseeing student
staff, opening and closing, greeting customers, historical
interpretation and daily reconciliation
- Exhibit creation, development and improvement in consultation
with the Curator as required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- an interest and understanding of the areas history
- marketing experience
- Computer and web development experience is an asset
- Knowledge of computer programs, including data base programs
- Communication and organizational skills
- Education or work experience equivalent in history and/or
business
