Good morning. Here's what the Greater Vernon Museum & Archives is doing for
Heritage Week;
* The Early Vernon Classroom program was offered at a reduced rate
for teachers.
* Postage Stamp Contest is being run through our local schools. Five
winners will be chosen and those students will have their art work used on
advertising posters, invitations and thank you cards for our upcoming
Historica Heritage Fair in April. As well, all stamp entries received will
be on display at the Museum for all of February and at our Antique Fair
February 15th & 16th.
* A class of grade 2/3 students is challenging a team made up of
local media and a team from the School District to "Are You Smarter Than The
Kidston Kids?" Teams will be quizzed on Early Vernon history. This new
event will take place Wednesday, February 20th, in the Kidston School gym at
1pm.
*Ken Mather will be speaking on "Ranching In Early B.C." at the
museum on Thursday, February 21 at 7pm. Ken is the author of 'Buckaroos and
Mud Pups: the Early Days of Ranching in British Columbia' and will be
signing his books following his presentation.
* A triva quiz on early Vernon history has been prepared for the
local newspaper.
That's about it.

Province Proclaims Heritage Week 2008
To Heritage BC members:
The Government of British Columbia has proclaimed Heritage Week 2008.

Are you making plans for Heritage Week? We would like to know what
they are. It would be great if you could send a description (aprogram,
media release, outline, etc.) to jthomas@heritagebc.ca
We will put it on our website to encourage others, who may also be
planning celebrations, and publicize how much is going on around the
province.
Thanks very much.
