Summary:
Working as part of a small team, the Education Programmer will plan and
implement the setup and move of our Education Department into a new facility.
During this period there will be a reduced, though still active, demand for
delivery of established school and public programs. The Fraser River Discovery
Centre Society is a hands-on interpretive centre with the mandate
of “Connecting communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working
Fraser River and to be recognized as the Centre of Excellence for stimulating
passion, education and enlightenment about the Fraser River”. The Centre has
been closed to the public since the fall of 2007 to allow for expansion to
almost triple its original size and will be re-opening in the fall of 2008.
Position:
Temporary full-time, 37.5 hours per week. This position is a five month
contract position starting August 12, 2008 (negotiable). It is anticipated
that, subject to funding and satisfactory performance of the work,
the position will become a regular position in January 2009.
Salary: $15.50 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
This position is responsible to:
This position reports to the Executive Director.
This position is responsible for:
· Planning and implementing the move of the Education Department into
the
new expanded facility
· Delivering and evaluating the educational content of current public
and
school programs
· Implementing marketing plans and promotional materials
· Booking school and community group programs and carrying out the
associated administration
· Assisting with the planning and delivery of special events
· Assisting with the organization of feature presentations
· Assisting the Volunteer Coordinator with Education volunteer program:
o Developing a volunteer marketing plan
o Liaising with internal and external volunteer groups
o Assisting with training of volunteer team
· Promoting, creating, and delivering public programs including walking
tours/speaker series/tours of the centre
· Other related duties as required
Qualifications
To be screened for an interview, you must clearly state in your cover letter
how you meet each of the following criteria:
· Academic background in education, environmental education, natural
sciences, or related field of studies, or an acceptable combination of
education and work experience.
· Minimum two years' classroom experience (or equivalent)
· Training/management of volunteers
· Previous experience working with children
· Extensive experience in presenting to large audiences
· Strong ability to coordinate and manage projects and events
· Experience working both independently and as an effective member of a
team
· Working knowledge of freshwater ecosystems and river landscapes
· Proficient with various software programs, including Windows 2000, MS
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
· Criminal record check is a condition of employment
