Hello subscribers,
The BCMA-L listserv has been receiving an increasing number of postings
with attachments and/or images included in the message content, etc.
The following is being re-circulated as a nice, gentle reminder to all
regarding the listserv's basic policies and posting practices -- Thank you!
Currently BCMA-L (bcma-l@museumsassn.bc.ca) is available FREE to any and
all interested parties. To maintain its effectiveness, we ask
subscribers to please keep in mind the following:
THE DO’S:
------------
PROMOTING DEVELOPMENT: Subscribers are encouraged to utilize BCMA-L to
increase the promotion of education, training and professional
development opportunities within their related communities. It is also a
fast and productive tool to seek advice and assistance, or to exchange
expertise and resource information.
EMAIL/CONTACT INFORMATION: Please include your email/contact information
in messages to allow for direct replies from responding members, if
desired, otherwise responses will only be posted back to BCMA-L. If the
original submitter’s contact info is not included, they may receive a
notice from the moderator to please re-submit their message with the
additional information.
REVISING THE SUBJECT LINE FOR RESPONSES: Some topics or “searches”
result in several responses posted back to BCMA-L and your Inbox with
the same Subject line and it may appear you are receiving the same
posted message over and over again — which you are not. As an example, a
message posted with the Subject line: “Looking for a Conservator” could
be responded to with a revised Subject line of: “Suggestions for a
Conservator” and posted back to BCMA-L for subscribers to view.
THE DON’TS:
---------------
NO ATTACHMENTS: To protect subscribers from potential viruses,
submissions containing attachments (eg. Word/PDF documents and/or
imbedded images) will not be approved for posting. Submitters will
receive a “Rejected” notice from the moderator with a request to remove
the images and/or re-submit with the text from the attachment either
typed or copied-and-pasted (preferably in plain text format) into the
main body of the original message. An alternative option to consider is
including a weblink (or email contact) in your message to provide
subscribers access to additional information, forms, photos, etc.
NO COMMERCIAL VENTURES: No advertising, product or services solicitation
please; other promotional venues, i.e. Museums Roundup, annual
Conference Trade Show, Regional Workshops, forthcoming Learning Resource
Database, etc. are available for this purpose. The submitter will
receive a notice from the moderator re Commercial Venture status.
NO RESUMES: Resumes are not posted on BCMA-L. Subscribers should respond
directly to the original job posting contributor. Respondents submitting
resumes will receive a notice from the moderator to please re-direct
their message to the posting institution.
BCMA-L’s Role
Please remember BCMA-L’s role (and the moderator’s) is solely to serve
as a clearinghouse for submissions of relevance and interest to the
provincial cultural heritage community. This includes related
information received by BCMA and forwarded to listserv subscribers. From
time to time, this may include conferences, workshops, post-secondary
courses, etc., however forwarding this information to BCMA-L does NOT
constitute an endorsement by BCMA and is provided only for the
information of subscribers. Suggestions from subscribers to improve
how/what information is received via the listserv are always welcome.
Please email suggestions and requests to members@museumsassn.bc.ca
Best regards,
