NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 12, 2008
* Delta Museum and Archives reach out to North Delta with two Exhibits*
* *
*/Delta, BC/** *-- The Delta Museum and Archives would like to invite
the community of North Delta to observe the history of Delta through two
fabulous exhibits currently showing in the main hallway at the North
Delta Recreation Centre.
On display until June 27, the DMA's "River of Memories: the Story of
Annieville, Sunbury and River Road", explores these once thriving
fishing communities and the area's landscape that is continually
changing. Through a collection of rare photographs, maps and stunning
air photo mosaics, the area's journey through history is documented and
retold.
Across the hall from the River of Memories exhibit, is another exhibit
produced by the Delta Museum and Archives. On display until August 23,
/"Food for Thought: a history of dining on the delta"/ explores the food
traditions from the early times of our community to the present day.
What we eat, how it's prepared and the way it is presented at the table
have all evolved over the last century. From the lavish Edwardian table,
through war rationing, to the fondue pot of the 1960s, this exhibit
looks at the influences on food fashions and their resulting paraphernalia.
In addition to these two satellite exhibits at the North Delta
Recreation Centre, currently on display at the Ladner Village location
are: /"1858 on the delta"/ and /"Dyking and Draining the delta"/. The
public is invited to come visit both locations and discover Delta's rich
history.
/Established in 1969, the Delta Museum and Archives is a not-for-profit
society whose mission is to capture, research and preserve stories,
records and objects of Delta; promote community identity and facilitate
access to our community's rich history and diverse culture through
education, exhibits and reference services for all present and future
generations.///
/The Delta Museum and Archives is located in the heart of Ladner Village
at 4858 Delta Street and is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00am to 4:30pm.
For further information, please call 604-946-9322./
