*Kelowna Museum**s Offering Half-day Guided Tours of Myra Canyon
Trestles and UBC Okanagan Archaeological Site*

Step into local history and enjoy the great outdoors this summer at the
newly restored Myra Canyon trestles with a guided tour led by the
Kelowna Museums.

Your Kelowna Museums guide will take you on a tour of the archaeological
excavation site at Trestle #8 along KLO Creek where UBC Okanagan
students will be working to uncover physical evidence of the Kettle
Valley Railway construction era. Maurice Williams, Associate Professor
of History at UBCO, will give an overview of the excavation work. Then,
your Kelowna Museums guide will lead you on a tour and historical
overview of the trestles.

"With the grand reopening of the trestles on June 22, this summer is the
perfect time to take a trip up to Myra Canyon, whether it's your first
visit to the trestles since they were destroyed by the Okanagan Mountain
Park Forest Fire in 2003 or if you've never been there before," says
Patti Kilback, Associate Director of Exhibitions & Public Programming at
the Kelowna Museums. "A guided tour is a great introduction to the
history of the trestles and participants will have the unique
opportunity to see first-hand the excavation work being done by UBC
Okanagan."

*There are two opportunities to take part in the tour:*

* *

*Saturday, July 26, 9:30 a.m. -12 p.m.*

*Saturday, August 9, 9:30 a.m. -12 p.m. *

Tours will meet in the Myra Canyon parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and will be
held rain or shine. You are advised to bring drinking water and to wear
hiking shoes and weather appropriate clothing. The cost is $15 per
person, or $10 per person for Kelowna Museums members.

*For more information or to book a spot on a tour, please call (250)
868-4836.*

The Myra Canyon trestles will re-open to the public on Sunday, June 22
with a celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Myra Canyon Trestle
Restoration Society has guided the rebuilding of the historic trestles
since the devastating fire and will host the grand re-opening (details
online at http://www.myratrestles.com <http://www.myratrestles.com/>).

As part of the Myra Canyon re-opening this summer, the Okanagan Heritage
Museum is hosting two local authors and Kettle Valley Railway experts in
a series of public lectures. The first is a book launch with Maurice
Williams, author of /Myra's Men/, on Wednesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at the
Museum at 470 Queensway Avenue. The second public event is a lecture
with Barry Sanford, author of /McCulloch's Wonder/ and /Steel Rails and
Iron Men/, on Thursday, July 17 at 7 p.m. also at the Museum. Admission
is by donation. For more information call (250) 763-2417.

The Kelowna Museums Society is a non-profit, charitable organization
dedicated to a greater awareness of the agricultural, wine-producing,
military, and cultural heritages of the Okanagan. For more information
